The Packers went on the road in Week 1 and got their backsides paddled with a wooden spoon.
Again.
It’s becoming an annual tradition for the Packers.
But if last year taught us anything, it’s that we shouldn’t overreact to Week 1 results.
With that in mind, here are the answer to the 3 biggest questions we asked last week that we felt would determine the outcome of the game:
- What will the Vikings new offense look like? Looks pretty good when no one guards the best young receiver in the game. O’Connell put together some really nice route combination concepts and showed a willingness to take some risks and go for it on 4th down. It was the first time we’d seen the offense, so the element of surprise was there, but even with film study this offense won’t be easy to stop.
. - What will the Packers offense look like? Garbage or the most part and it all starts up front. Jake Hanson was pushed around all day. The tackles where ineffective even when they had chipping help. The max protect schemes left the defense with extra numbers in coverage and when receivers beat them, like on the first play of the game, they dropped easy balls. The running backs looked great… so they rarely got the ball. Burn the film and start over.
. - Will special teams ruin the game? No! It actually didn’t. The offense and defense did, but special teams was solid. Nothing spectacular, but “solid” is a gigantic upgrade from last year. Rich Bisaccia looked like he knows what he’s doing and getting his preferred players in the game paid dividends. Pat O’Donnell had a couple near blocks, but his quick get-off was one of the reasons they brought him in and he did his job well. Who knew that special teams would outclass offense and defense in this game?
