I can’t wait for the 2016 season to start, especially because we have a home opener against the Seahawks.
As of late, the Seahawks have become very formidable rivals. Russell Wilson is a rising star in the league, but (I know Packer fans don’t want to hear this) Dom Capers has been fantastic at stopping him.
In 5 career games (4 regular season and 1 playoff) against the Packers (all of which were under the leadership of Dom Capers), Russell Wilson’s stats are:
84/147 976 yards, 8 TDs 10 Ints
Now I’m not a big stats guy. They can be very misleading based on how you spin them or what situations they are applied to. However, it’s hard to spin those numbers in a positive manner.
Add some context and his numbers look even worse.
Consider that the Fail Mary was an interception and not a touchdown and his OT score in 2014 should have never happened (Bostick). Change those plays and his numbers would be 6 TDs to 11 Ints.
More recently, he’s ever worse. His last 3 games, including playoffs, have him at 4 TDs and 10 Ints with 10 sacks. He has a 1-2 record and his only win came courtesy of Peppers telling Burnett to lay down instead of scoring a touchdown and Bostick Bosticking up the onside kick. Again, take away the OT score that should have never happened and it’s 3 TDs to 10 Ints with an 0-3 record.
Ifs and buts are candy and nuts, you say?
Fine, let’s go back to the beginning:
84/147 976 yards, 8 TDs 10 Ints
That’s not good, that’s not even average. Those are worse numbers than Tim Tebow. Wilson’s career regular season rating against Caper is 77.2 in the regular season and 44.3 in the playoffs.
Terrible.
I know all the cool kids want to fire Capers, but he’s doing enough things right to keep his job. Among those things is slowing down a star like Russell WIlson.
Capers owns Russell Wilson.
